Sawtooth Oak

17” tip to tip. I would normally have thrown this out but our church took this tree down and it had sentimental value for members so I’ve tried to save as much of it as possible. My original intent was a twice turned NE bowl but it started cracking almost immediately so I finish turned it and put the pewas in to hold it together- and they worked. Once it was done moving I filled the cracks with epoxy and finished with polymerized tung oil.

@James Seyfried thanks! You have to upload the photos somewhere else and then link to them. I have these photos uploaded at my own personal website and then use the links directly to those images in the comments.

Good job Rob! I never double turn NE bowls. I finish them the same day. Nobody will ever notice, not even a turner if they go out of round. Good job on the pewa. I would put more on the bottom, I never leave a crack that long without them.

@Emiliano Achaval Thanks! Yeah- I’m done with the twice turned thing for NE bowls. I had some hickory really contort on me and it took on an ugly shape, the foot puckered up into the bowl basically, but other than that I’ve had better luck with once turned. Right now I’m letting a few walnut NE bowls dry enough so I can sand them and then they will go up on a shelf to dry.
