My goal was to keep as much of the natural edge as I could when I turned this 5” X 5” maple burl open figure. The twists were formed from an oak branch. Once I turned it round, I hollowed it out and measured to carve 8 twists. Two pieces were joined to make the longer orange flame. I used dowels to affix the flames to a maple ball connected to the inside of the open figure.
