No Stone Left Unturned

This Arbutus tree was growing out of rock and was falling over so was taken down. When I first looked at the tree I saw a rock (circled in blue) and had an idea for that piece of wood. We harvested that stump into usable pieces for turning. This is the 2nd style of this vase I have turned. The portion with the rock is shown on the lathe bedways before it was turned. Arbutus Burl Vase 16.6" tall X 5" diameter, finished with 3 coats of Tung Oil. The rocks went deep into the wood and when I hollowed out the inside I drilled through the rock and sand.
