This urn was turned from kiln dried hard Maple with a Blackwood practice finial using the Escoulan No. 1 chuck acquired at the Albuquerque Symposium. Inspiration for the texturing on the urn came from Molly Wintons work. She is coming to the SWAT symposium this month. Diane had purchased Mollys branding package for the checkered patterns and I decided to just give them a try. The center band was dimpled with the NSK carver and a 1/16 ball burr. Hollowing was done with John Jordans small hollowing tools. The center band was airbrushed with black Dharma dye and then the whole piece was airbrushed with a burgundy blend of red and black dye. The Blackwood finial has a suction fit and an Aquamarine colored stone in the base. The urn size is 2 x 6 high (top of the finial), with 1/8 thick wall and a 5/8 opening at the top of the urn.
