Interesting wood

These four yo-yos were all turned from a 2.25" x 12" long block of southeast Asian Ironwood, aka: Xylia Kerrii or Pyinkado. The face of each yo-yo is end-grain. Interesting how different the wood looks from piece to piece as the grain patterns shift around.
was there any difference in the way they cut?
Looks like u overcame the differences

I received some Arizona mesquite one time and no it was not green.....ironwood has certain disturbing nightmares with the images ....i assume oil finish?

Hey Charlie, Asian Ironwood is great for turning, and takes rose engine detail extremely well. These were all sanded to 400 grit, followed by a coat of Mylands sanding sealer, a 600 grit sanding with Yorkshire Grit and paper towel, a light Beall buff and Renaissance Wax.

I have had mixed results with Renaissance wax, never used sanding sealer with it, probably got too much on it. Too much and all sudden tear out.

Beautiful work Ed! Nice rose engine details
