Hope Compassion Heroism

This piece is inspired by and dedicated to all the first responders that worked during Hurricane Ike.

The wood is storm downed Oak that was given to me to commission a bowl for the tree's owners, this piece was made from the other half of the log.

The 'nest' has been textured, ebonized, torched, covered at various times with metallic paints, torched again, covered with black gesso, wiped off, and finally sprayed with gloss poly. In other words, if I had to repeat this finish exactly, I doubt I could manage to do so.

The 'eggs' are covered with copper, silver and gold leaf.

6 inches in diameter
