Driftwood

Made this from an old piece of driftwood I got from a worker with a local tree service. Said it was old when he got it and it had been in the corner of his garage for at least 10 years. My first piece of actual "driftwood" to turn. No idea what the species is. Open to ideas on what it might be. It was a tough turn. Dulled my tools almost instantly and had alternating dense and soft areas that made it hard to keep a consistent surface. 11" tall. Shellac finish.
Very nice vase, Randy! To me it looks like Pecan or some other type of Hickory (Carya). But just a guess. Regardless of the type, you certainly did it justice.

Thanks Michael. Appreciated considering the caliber of your work lately. Great pieces. At a local market this week I told people it was driftwood when they asked. Some got it, others reacted like I said oak, hickory, etc...maybe they think driftwood is a species.

BTW - my younger brother's name is Michael and you look a lot like him, when he was younger of course.

Appreciate that Randy. Driftwood is as a good of a species name as anything else. That's kind of like "What kind of wood is this? Yes." haha. And that's funny about your younger brother. He has a really nice name ;)
