#2218 spalted Maple burl.
Odie

#2218 spalted Maple burl.

Finished 4/24/24 and sold for $175 on 6/9/24, this spalted maple bowl took a total of 7 months to stabilize. It then was finish turned and sanded to 600gt, Danish oil natural, and Beall 3-step buffed. There were some very soft spots because of the spalting, and required re-turning and re-doing a surface because of these soft spots. Spalting can be very beautiful when it turns like you want it to, but it can also be very frustrating, and become a reject, as this one almost was.

Oh can I relate! Beautiful!

Yeah, you know it, Nino......when it works, it's beautiful....when it doesn't, it's trash! :)

Easily recognizable as an “Odie” but an interesting variation with the deeper bowl. I really like it and especially the rim treatment.
