Redwood burl hollow form

5” x 3”

Turned this piece while it was ~20% MC. The result is some nice movement through the neck and a rippled texture along the shoulder. Applied a couple coats of sanding sealer to help slow the drying process and avoid major splits. Two-stage buff: first with brown tripoli and then with an empty flannel wheel.
Living in the east I do not see redwood, as a boy we once had redwood outdoor furniture, and have used redwood stain before covid, it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, my ????, the color of this redwood, how what % is not colored redwood, I like the presentation, but it's not what I think of redwood, course I live in the east.

Like with many Pacific Coast woods, they are less available now than last century. I remember driving the main roads in NoCal and Oregon where a strip of trees were left at the side of the road and the forest clear cut behind it. Clear Redwood was available at most lumberyards. Try to find a lumberyard now (not big box). Those were the days for sure. Redwood sapwood can almost look white next to the deep red. The sapwood can have great grain texture like this as well.
