Hollow Form - 544

Hollow Form - 544

The wood is Hickory. The size is 4.5" dia x 8.5" tall. I finished this piece with a mixture of 4 oz. of Danish oil and a drop of black india ink. The open grain of the wood absorbed the ink to create wonderful highlights. Wipe on the oil and wipe off after five minutes. When the oil dried the piece was buffed with white diamond followed by carnauba wax.
Ed, Really nice form on this one. It looks like you have a very subtle roundover on the base? The one thick annual ring adds a little interest to it. What type of wood?

Paul, Thank you for pointing out that I forgot the wood. It is Hickory. Thanks to you I now know that. Doesn't look the same any more does it? Yes, the foot is tucked in a bit.

i like you hollow form and the india ink for highlight is super, what makes the red spot on the form, i have a silver maple blank with the same type of red mark thru the blank???

baitbegger, I left part of the cambium layer just below the bark for an accent point of interest. I mounted the log a little off center which allowed me to accomplish this. Thanks
