Curly Mahogany?

Curly Mahogany?

6.5 X 11 hollow vessel. This is from a discarded piece of wood that I acquired about 7 years ago from a woodturners widow. The blank was dirty and non-descript but he had purchased it in 1993. Imagine my amazement when I actually started working the wood! There is no dye on this piece at all. I know that it is not Maple. A friend with much more knowledge about wood than me, identified it as some sort of Mahogany. If anyone has a better idea of what species this spectacular piece of wood is, I would love to hear it.
Nicely done...
Without holding it in my hands, I wouldn't say for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if the wood was koa.

Beautiful form on a stunning piece of curly Koa....well done.
