Bolt box

I turned this out of boxwood and threaded it on my rose engine lathe. The head unscrews to reveal the box.
Wes I like your piece ! I do have a good many threaders that BEALL TOOL co. sell.
at one time I made maybe 6 but the shank/s were 1" , matching Nut and 2 LOCK washers. they were for my Dad. 3 sons and 2 step sons. each one had a $50 bill rolled up inside with the head came off and a note to say Merry Christmas of 1992 I THINK. I did even sand a small chamfer on all the edges of the nut and its corners. since then I bought Beall's 1 1/2 because I had thoughts of a shop stool. his male threads you may know are done with a router and a corresponding tap. makin 1 1/2 female threads? Whew ! but I have several times. I beleive I might pass on the thing of Making a nut IN wood. first drilling/tapping has to be thru the grain NOT into the grain AND one must lay out the nut, drill / tap then saw and sand the nut. UNLESS you want a broken unfinished one.

such a simple means should have been invented as soon as there were routers. the back half of the white peice has the threads molded into it, and there are separate ones for each size dowel/turned spindle. as the shaft-dowel is turned the 2 fluted 60* router bit starts cutting the rest simply has to follow those threads. comes with an indexing sleeve to cwntere the bit. once that has been done, one only needs to raise the bit upenough to change the white piece to diff. size then lowering the bit again to the needed depth.THAT IS A MATTER OF HIT N MISS TILL JUST RIGHT, BUT SO SIMPLE also.

ah ha threads in Banksia pod ! who would have thought it ? very good Senior ! of course not possible with the Beall thread makin stuff. and I realize chasin threads is a craft all its own.
