Made this piece for a talk I'm giving about design and woodturning at YouTube's annual design conference in August. Kept it simple; classic form, walls turned to about 1/4", and finished with shellac.
Annual conference for Youtube? How did you get on there and what are the others going to be talking about? Great piece too, the walnut rings are really clean!
I work there, which helps 😬. There was a call for topics a few months ago. I submitted my proposal for a talk and was one of five selected for the event. The agenda is a mix of YouTubers and external folks. Wide range of topics, but all focus on design in some capacity.
First off, that's a very nice hollow form, making excellent use of the wood's features.
Second, taking off on a tangent, if you work for youtube, can you please do something about the idiots posting woodturning videos that show horrible technique and unsafe practices? At the very least, they should have a crawler on the bottom saying that youtube (and me, if necessary) doesn't condone the content shown and anyone learning to turn wood should have instruction from a safe and competent turner. I would imagine that youtube has some liability if someone gorks themself copying something they saw on the site.
