A Diamond in the Rough

A Diamond in the Rough

Arbutus Root Burl with naturally embedded stone. This piece measures 20" X 18" X 12" high, finished with 3 coats tung oil. The bowl measures 9.25" X 3" deep and the piece weighs in at 26.2 pounds. As you would expect it was turned at very low rpm especially while on the vacuum chuck to remove the bottom tenon.
Very cool Dave; a new take on a “real knee knocker” while turning!!
Thank you Russ, it was a slow turning project for sure, I had the rock wrapped with Gorilla Duct tape and a piece of masking tape on the tool rest so as not to cross the line while hollowing the bowl portion.
