250 year old Chestnut

Before all the billions of chestnut trees died in the blight, some pioneers in western Virginia used chestnut logs and chinks to build a log cabin - the original structure dates to about 1770. During renovations I got some of the chinks, and made this bowl for the descendants of the builder
Beautiful grain. What was the finish? Lots of history. I grew up in the 50s and remember them along with the elm which is making a comeback with resistant strains.
 
I used Shine Juice on this one. I went with spray lacquer on the larger tray I made from the same wood, but the Shine Juice worked better.
