2149 Australian Red Mallee Burl.

Finished 12/26/2022, 9 1/2" x 2 1/4", 1 lb 14.7 oz. As received, the turning block was 10 1/4" x 2 1/2" square, and was 22% MC. After roughing 1st turn and anchorseal, the roughed bowl took a total of 19 months to stabilize. Slow to season because of it's being a very dense wood, and further slowed because of the anchorseal. There was one very large crack as received, and after seasoning, it was epoxy filled, mixed with Red Mallee Burl sanding dust. Almost an invisible repair! Sold for $335 on 1/15/23. Red Mallee Burl is one of my all-time favorite woods-needs very sharp tools!

Beautiful Odie, what crack?

Thanks, Russ.....:)

I was the one who repaired that crack, and I couldn't identify it in the pic......I even had trouble finding it when the bowl was in my hands......I could, but it was not easy to find, and the crack was about 1/16" wide and traversed the entire rim!

Just a note here.......I usually don't bother to repair minor cracks, and I've found that some cracking is acceptable on exotic woods. The buyers consider them character.....well, up to a point. There is that point where the crack is just "too much", and requires some repair. It's a matter of guess-timation on what needs to be repaired, and what doesn't. You'll see some obvious cracking in this bowl, but those were left intentionally.
