I've been reading past posts about quick and shiny finishes and in amongst those are folks who say they mix their own shellac. Now that DNA seems hard to get what do you use to dissolve your shellac flakes and what flakes do you prefer.
Household ammonia cleans shellac from brushes or anything else. Unlike dna it cleans vs just diluting.

I use ammonia to clean my spray gun after spraying shellac. I think it does a better job at cleaning the gun than alcohol, and there's not the fire hazard of the alcohol. But I do wear a respirator for the ammonia, since I'm essentially spraying it through the gun.Does amonia break down shellac?
