If you look closely, you'll see I've used a hacksaw to put two little notches in my tool rest shafts. (I suppose a file would work just as well.) These notches match the top of the banjo, and give a quick reference point of where centerline and maximum height is. These reference points make it easy to quickly adjust the tool rest to the proper height, especially when making small adjustments to compensate for the thickness of the tool steel in scrapers.
Pretty handy!
