Another in a series of suspended hollow form vessels. This one features a hanging open form under the main turning with a small turned element inside. The detail photos show it more clearly. The base is covered with crushed rock. The rock is held in place with a home brew of white glue cut 50-50 with water and a drop of detergent to cut the surface tension. Much cheaper and way less nasty than CA. Once it dries, it disappears and holds everything pretty securely.
The edge piece around the base is made from cold bendable wood, a specialty product that can be bent to a small radius without having to use a steam bending system. The uprights are made from several layers of veneer glued over a form in a veneer press.
The top finial lifts off to reveal a small lift out reliquary.
Materials are figured maple, african mahogany, Indian rosewood, brass pins, and the aforementioned crushed rock. It's 16"Wx14"Hx7 1/2"D.
I'm planning on taking it to Hartford for the auction.
