Plain Bowl

Coolibah burl turned with the aid of my new friend a strut and Mdf ring that I place on the back with jhoyt melt glue to stiffen the piece so I can turn to 3 to 4 mm
This is quite allot bigger than it appears in the picture
Finished with oil then lacquer

This piece (sorry for the gloat ) came first in Plain bowls at the Franklin arts
I will be investigating more of this form ?shape technique as I am amazed at the attention this plain bowl has created.
I wish i had ten of hem as I could have sold them all
comments welcome
Beautiful piece Terry.......we don't often see Aussie burl turned that thin and the ring is a nice surprise.......Mac

Malcolm If you have a look at www.timberly.co.nz you will see allot of burls turned thinner than this .The rolled over rim type I aim for 3mm A turner in Australia Paul ? that turns all his work to 1to 2 mm amazing stuff
wet its easy but a piece like this was as hard as rocks so I didnt dare go thinner

Thanks for the information Terry, our burls here are very soft by comparison,so I guess thats why we turn them a bit thicker....take care...
