Maple hollow form measuring approximately 6.5 inches tall and 6 inches wide. All comments and critiques are welcomed and appreciated.
Joe-

Beautiful. The backgrond reflection takes away from your piece. Is the piece stained or colored and what finish did you use on your piece?

Gary

Thanks Gary. It is a difficult piece to photograph. The color was achieved by applying layers of black, red, and yellow water based aniline dyes. The finish is wipe-on poly.

I'm rating the piece not the photo. (The reflection.)

I don't generally care for ultra shiny wood, but with the dye job it seems to be more appropriate than a duller finish. Shiny also shows off any defects in the finishing, and this one looks flawless. Well done!

P.S. - What wood is it?

Aloha Joe,

About how many coats of poly do you apply? It works great with maple I suspect because of the close grain, however, I am working on a highly figured piece of Robusta Eucalyptus which has interlocking grain. I'm on the fourth coat but it doesn't appear that I'll be getting the same results that you obtained with maple. Am I wrong and in need of greater patience?

Mahalo,

Jeff
