Kingwood Lidded Box

Kingwood Lidded Box

Yet another box, this time turned with Kingwood. A true Rosewood (Dalbergia Cearensis), it has a nice straight grain and interesting color variation. It also is very dense and easy to turn. The lid detail on the box is undercut just slightly and then domed as it goes toward the top. There is a groove where the two details intersect. Turned and hollowed, sanded to 600 grit and finished with gloss lacquer. Size is approx. 3 inches tall and 2.25 inches in diameter. I realize my boxes have the same general shape, so I am working on some different styles for the future.
Another excellent box, Gabriel. Nice grain match—I prefer the visible joint, so well done. What size parting tool do you use to separate the lid from the body?

I really like your lid design, Gabriel, that reverse curve is very nice ... well done!
Kingwood is a beautiful wood - but, is usually a little more purple as I recall, especially when recently cut/turned. Morado is similar looking to Kingwood but a little more brownish. Your grain match is excellent. I do prefer a continuous curve for the shape, as you have done on previous boxes, rather than the straight sides meeting at the joint. Just my 2¢! (worth what you paid for it!) :)

Thank you Tom! I will keep that in mind for the next few boxes. The piece was pretty big so I got three box blanks out of it!
