Emerging World

Was posting some of my early work to instagram and thought I should do the same here. This piece was titled Emerging World. 10 inches in diameter by 14 tall. Made from Cocobolo and curly maple. I did do work that was not Chaco related at one time.
Jim, I was amazed when I read these three pieces are your early works! I thought to myself, that you are evolving......but, instead, I see that you have evolved! Of the three, I like this one the best, and I definitely see the influence it has on your more current works. Very nice.

Thanks Odie.

Fantastic piece, Jim. Great concept, execution and workmanship! Bet that Cocobolo doesn't look quite as bright today.

Lovely segmented piece Jim! I love the Bud Latven feel and the center ball it a great touch. You should revisit segmenting, you have a nice eye for it!!

Thanks. Too bad Cocobolo does not keep its color. Living in New Mexico definitely influenced by Bud Latven. I would like to revisit some of this work but there are far too many good segmenters like Russ out there for me to want to compete in that arena. Might do some segmenting for the family collection though.

Top shelf work speaks for itself Jim; your top shelf is very crowded!! Thankfully, segmented woodturning is not a competition……unless you’re talking about the swirl inside your own head, lol!! Segmenting is eagerly awaiting your return!!
