The Great Train Robbery

The Great Train Robbery

The film "The Great Train Robbery" was the first in that era to depict the Hero's wearing white cowboy hats and the villains wearing black hats. When I branded the band I wanted to darken the branding so I dyed it with leather dye but it bled through to the inside. Originally I scraped the hat but then decided to dye the whole hat black, finished with 7 coats flat lacquer.
Looks great! A happy accident.

I also use Leather dye for an all black it is my favorite.

I use Airbrush paints to avoid bleed through.
You can brush them on. The transparent lets some of the grain show through.
The opaque gives the leather dye look.
