Wood Lathe List

A similar comparative table already exists.....

Are you aware of the pdf file by Walter Jones that has been available on the AAW web site for quite some time?

Check out: http://www.woodturner.org/resources/LatheSpecs.pdf

(this table is updated periodically.....)

Although similar data is included in your table, I suppose it is not necessarily re-inventing the wheel, but close....

Maybe there's a lesson here in that the availability of the pdf file on Lathe Specs needs to be more prominently shown on the AAW web site....?????

Happy Holidays....

Link?

Hi Neal -

Would you mind if I linked to this list on your site from my Woodturning Links Web page?

In Walter Jones' list the Delta 46-460 needs to be added, as well as the non variable speed version. Also the list posted by N_Addy needs to add the LA 200 (Midi). Both Delta's are excellent Midi's.

Also...

The Shopfox 1758 and Grizzly G0462 lathes are identical but you're listing the Shopfox lathe as having EVS and the G0462 lathe as not being VS. Both have Reeves drive pulleys that control the 10 speed ranges.

Further the JET JWL-1442VSK is almost identical and is controlled with the same Reeves drive pulley system and you list it as VS.

Same with the Harbor Freight 1443

Some correction for Vicmarc lathes

As the importer of the genuine Vicmarc form Australia I would like to bring some precision to your table of lathe which by the way is an excellent idea.
I believe that you have the specifications of the CS version of the Vicmarc lathe. For example the VL300 from Vicmarc weighs 770lbs in the short version and 990 lbs in the long version, prices goes with the weight, 5495.00 and 5949.95 respectively. One way to distinguish the two version is the presence of the red horizontal bar functionning as a stop bar. Those are in stock at Woodworker's Emporium. Also the medium speed range on those lathes is 20 to 2000 rpm. Most of the information is available at Vicmarc.com.

Just a quick note.

The Delta 746, 755x has been discontinued and parts are no longer available. Don't ask me how I know. 🙁
