Hello,
I have some natural edge nested bowl sets and hollow forms I would like to sell. Could anyone tell me where a good place to sell them is? Such as a gallery or online store.
Thanks in advance
Wyatt

where

you might googgle craft shows, it shows a large listing, you will probably just want to go to ones with a juried show

local art gallaries in you driving area

being in Utah you might also check the ski and golf resorts gift shops

usually you will have to leave work on consignment... i believe there was a post a while back for contracts with galleries you need to have something in writing and a picture is very helpful

contracts with what can go wrong and who is responible is the way to go

expect to give up 30% and more to the gallery and oh yeah, you need to report it for state taxation, in virginia you have to report sales each month, and if you forget they charge you a forget fee (he he), but once you report sales you can depreciate lathe, tools, your building, etc

i am sure there are more angles good and bad to consider...

oh, remember to have a tough skin... its their money
it is different turning to what is selling and turning what you like to turn
it a pretty tough local economy right now, you just have to find the right turning at the right place at the right time at the right price

unless you are a reconized turner, it is hard to sell online because people like to pick up and hold what they are buying

Re selling work

What I do is I make up a list of customers and either email,or post them a list of new items for sale .It helps if you can send pictures as well. You might not sell the items listed but future referrals and commissions often come off the information sent .
I also hold and open day were I put on a wine and cheese .My last one I sent out 350 invites and 120 people came .Emails worked the best as I spent $250 on an add in the local paper but didn't seem to get any visits due to that .
Another way is to take a selection of your work along to craft or galliers and offer a viewing.
I have found that offering a talk at a Rotary or lions club taking along some of your work is a good lead up to an open day
Any thing else you'd like to know give me an email at timberly@xtra.co.nz
Cheers

If you are just stating out, look for local farmers markets or wine festival. Local community groups are also a good start. Is there an annual craft fair in your area? State or county fair?

When you do find a venue that you think you would like to do contact the managers of the event or talk with the venders.

I have had little success with galleries and dismal results from consignment shops. No one can sell your work as well as you can.

good luck

Aaron
