John - I bought a "oneway revolving center adapter" from either Packard or Craft Supplies that converts the live center to the same size/thread as the spindle.
You can then buy and use the same Beall Spindle tap on both ends. With this solution you get the added benefit of being able to hang a chuck / faceplate off the live center.

(P.S. The powermatic live center is identical to the oneway live center.)
I bought a 3/4"-10 tap on eBay for about $ 5 and another $3.50 for USPS shipping..... works great for making adapters, etc. for my Oneway live center. I still want to get some of the UHMW plastic stock to make a few cones, etc. for tailstock support. The tap I have was made in Germany and was new in the box when I received it (still had cosmolene on the threads and orginal labelling/seals. You might want to give ebay a try....
I bought a nut at Lowes to make a friction chuck to go on my PM live center to turn spheres. At a about $1.25 per nut you might consider that option and imbed it in whatever wood device you are making.
