This calls for a new thread 🙄
At first I was surprised by the response to my little rant. Then I thought “This is just what I should have expectedâ€Â. The community of wood turners are the most giving and sharing bunch of any group I have ever been associated with. The responses suggest that there is no reason not to give a location in your profile so I hope many of you will follow Steve’s instruction and do an update soon. I agree with hockenbury, I never met an anonymous wood turner! But the post did spark a lot of other interesting comments like QSL cards (there had to be a HAM in the crowd), and trading wood. I’d like to share my experience. I have traveled a lot, both for work and for pleasure. Some years ago I started packing mesquite and my AAW Directory to take with me. Trust me you have to be creative if you are flying. When I arrived the directory finds me a turner and the mesquite makes me a friend. I now have friends on both coasts and points in-between. If convenient I have also visited their club and done a demo. You often see someone asking what to see or do in a place they are going to visit. I did that once and spent a great afternoon with “Capt Jack†near Seattle. We turned a collaborative bowl that my wife still enjoys using and I had one of the best hamburgers ever!!
The turner that designs and cares for our club web page started something you may be interested in. Paid up AAW and AWA members can have a free gallery page on the club site. If you are coming to the San Antonio area and want to check out the club and maybe its members it’s all on the club web page. If you want to look me up and call before you come , have a look here www.alamoturners.com/bedwards
BTW: I am from VA (Newport News)and Jamestown was the first settlement. And TEXAS is more an attitude than a state!
😀 Update those profiles now, you hear!! 😀
