What videos to add to the Library?

As current club librarian for the Central Illinois Woodturns, I would appreciate opinions as to what video's / DVD's to add to the club library. The library currently has about 65 videos and DVD's. They span a variety of topics. My sense is that the selection is a little weak in the area of general information for a new turner that kind of covers all the little things that one needs to know.
I would appreciation any suggestions. Hopefully I have succeeded in attached the spreadsheet of the library.

Thanks.

Any of John Jordan's video's but I really like the one on Wood movement. Bill Grumbine's video on Bowl turning is good.

I didn't see anything on sharpening in the list and so I'd suggest that. Grumbines DVD is very popular in our chapter.

The AAW sharpening video is really great. It has 3 different people showing you their sharpening technique so you get a 3 different ways to choose from.

I have found Russ Fairfield's three DVD set on "Finishing Secrets for Woodturning" to be outstanding. It has a lot of basic, down to earth information presented in an easy to watch format that has really helped me to improve my sanding and finishing skills. I highly recommend it.

I am the Central Illinois Woodturners president and I can add some info. Bill Grumbine and Russ Fairfield's dvd are sitting on my desk and ready to be put into the library. I am pretty certain that we have both of Alan Lacers dvds. Stott and Jordan's are good suggestions. I agree with Dennis, thanks for your input.

MWA Video Library

Our video library is added to based on recommendations from members who hear about new releases. As an example, I recently suggested the purchase of Russ Fairfield"s "Finishing Secrets" three disk video set. The purchase was made and well worth it. We also added the three disk set recently released by Jimmy Clewes called "Turn It On." Our budget is fairly flexible because we have 200 plus members in our club. You'll note also in our library list that several are club photographed videos taken during professional demos we contracted for.

Once you have a basic set for your club, there don't seem to be that many new titles coming out every year. By the way, we charge members $2 rental fee which goes into a fund to purchase new or replacement videos.

Chuck;
Thanks for posting the library link. Does your club have a philosophy about which tapes are purchased, or are you pretty much purchasing every new tape that comes out?

Others?

Chuck;
Thank you for the posting. I would hope that other club librarians would chip in with there views of which videos, how many, and their club's philosophy on the library.

CIW does not have a charge to check out the videos. We use an honor system with each member signing his name on the library card and putting it in the wooden box in the tub of tapes.

Our club rotates meeting sites at two locations about 45 miles apart. Some members will come to the meeting closest to their home and not the farther one. This means that many times tapes are checked out for 2 months as a matter of course. It follows that if a member "forgets" the tape at one meeting, it can be 4 months before it is returned. Not a perfect system, but it follows the KISS principal.
