Lately I have been given a number of plank off cuts and the challenge is what to make out of them. For the most part the off cuts are either highly figured or have great colour/grain structure. This no doubt why its been kept and the owner has passed on to me with ''see what you can do with this'' and for the most part they are old as they have been kept waiting for some magical burst of inspiration that never really came. I have had a quite a few in the past and usually pass them on. Lol now they are coming back.
This one is Blackwood or Acacia Melanoxylon, a little different to the usual Blackwood I have, as the colour is different as is the grain structure also its very dense, currently just oiled several times and it has to dry before I have a go at the final finish. The thinking at present will be a satin Polyurethane varnish, hardened then polished. The inspiration kinda developed over time with the centre first followed by the relief carving of the outside. Its pretty much done although I'm still humming and harring over it, not sure its what I had in mind or I have done it justice

Seed jars: Probably wouldn’t have much relevance on your end of the world.
I make seed jars forms stylized after the Anasazi pottery as two piece hollow forms.
Nice wood stands alone. Great for embellishing duller wood

First two were sapele cutoffs not particularly interesting wood. The next are cherry and red gum eucalyptus
