What Did You Learn At The AAW Symposium's Demos?

This was my first AAW Symposium and I was impressed to the max by the entire experience, especially the demos. Here are some examples of what I got out of demos by Mark Gardner and Nick Agar. Mark's demos were "Hollow Forms Made Easy" and "Surface Embellishments." Nick's demo was "Viking Sunset Bowls" and I also attended a workshop he gave. Both Mark and Nick are excellent instructors as I'm sure were many of the other demonstrators and I would encourage all to attend their demos and next years Symposium. So the question is - what did you learn from the demos?

I learned that I have a lot to learn!

The event was "inspiring" that's for sure ... now I just need to get to work on that lathe!

I'm not sure that I learned too many new turning techniques, per se, but I did acquire an unexpected interest in pyrography on the turnings (and ended up buying a burner to play with)

Never Give up and keep an open mind. Every demonstrator has a different take on something you've come to accept as gospel.

Don't discount a demo because the subject doesn't appeal or interest you. If I take away one good useable idea it was a worthwhile demo.

Leave a rotation to seriously examine the Instant Gallery when it is not crowded. There is so much to learn there if we open our eyes and minds.
