Knifemakers use vulcanized fiber in knife handles. It comes in red, white, blue, and black. Knife supply companies sell it. It usually comes in a 12 inch by 12 inch piece. It is very thin, probably between 1/32 and 1/64 inch thick.
I use it in a full tang knife between the metal handle and the wood part of the handle. I also stack and epoxy it on hidden tang handles.
If you need a knifesupply company phone number or address, let me know.
Awhile back I glued a piece of red fiber between two pieces of maple, intending to make a lathe tool handle, but have yet to turn it.
