I recently bought the 5" vicmarc chuck. I noticed after a few uses that the jaws were binding on me. thought it was due to some wood particles jambed under the channel. I took the jaws off to clean and found that this was not the case. On the #4 jaw it appers that a particle of metal came lose and got stuck in the channel. this began to cut a grove into the channel and bound up the chuck. did i do something wrong? i only turn wood. and have a clean shop. is this a manufacture flaw? should i attempt to send it back??

It seems strange that a piece of metal could come off one of the jaws unless you hit it with a turning tool -- I would suspect that the piece of metal was there from the time that you got it. Without the benefit of seeing it, my thought is to send it back for an exchange.

I have a Vicmarc and like it - flawless! I also have a Nova which is fine but...
When I first purchased it I found a flaw with one of the lever bar holes being to shallow. The bar wouldn't insert. There was an end of a broken off thread tap stuck down in the hole. I immediately ran it back to the store and received an exchange. Moral of the story, s^%$ happens. Not all manufacturing lines are perfect.

SEND IT BACK AND GET AN EXCHANGE.

I have several Vicmarc's and they all work flawlessly. This sounds like something was stuck in this from the factory and now is causing problems. I guarantee that they would be happy to exchange it, they are good people. Actually since they are all the way in NZ it would probably work to exchange with who you got it from. CSUSA for example I'm sure would stand behind anything like that they sold, and most other would also.

I agree with the others. I have 2 vicmarc chucks and plan to get a third. they are great. I would send it back also and get a replacement.

I have 2 vicmarcs and they work great. I would not keep anything that I spent a couple hundred bucks on that was not right. Return it and get one that is right.
