on a lighter note.
is anyone aware of a vari grind 2 that is made to hold larger gouges??
or was i dreaming when i thought i had seen one??
or maybe someone can pass on info in assisting in doing a retro fit to accomodate larger gouges with existing vari grind 2 componenets?

I just checcked my "office" library where my Oneway catalogue is kept and it only lists one style of Varigrind 2 and it accepts gouges up to 3/4". The only two ways it seems to be available is with a base platform (part #3920) and one its own for folks who already have the Wolverine system (part #3900).

I have one of the original versions and it will take up to a 3/4" bowl gouge. I saw a supposedly newer version that looked like it would take up to 1", at a symposium two or so years back (don't ask me which one!). It was priced higher than I was willing to pay though and I didn't buy it. Don't know if it was a "2" or what.

One or more of the other type jigs will take larger than 3/4". but then you'd have to get the whole thing.
