Will the Vancouver Island burl be displayed @ Portland......I guess they could get some ideas for moving it from Egyptians.....might find pictorgylphs of process.
Charlie - could you expand on that a little? What’s the Vancouver burl? Heiroglyphics? I’m lost, but close enough to Vancouver to pick up if there’s burl involved.
Too bad - it’s a little larger than I can fit in my truck - maybe it could be floated over...we’re only a few islands (and an international border) away. Also, Vancouver Island is a far cry from Vancouver; a ferry ride and a drive up-island to get to Port McNeil.
There used to be a guy on Orcas Island (I think) who had a converted lathe from a steel mill he turned giant bowls from root balls and stumps, but if I remember correctly, he was limitd to about 6 or 7 feet in diameter.
That reminds me of the carbuncle growing on my backside that needs to be removed.
A burl that size would be a quite a chore getting it out of the woods.
How does Sitka burl compare in price to the other burls sought after in the woodworking world?
