A little over three months ago, there was a thread about CA glue (http://www.aawforum.org/vbforum/showthread.php?t=10255) and I mentioned some problems that I had with leakage around the threaded caps of the small refill bottles when using the thin Starbond CA glue. Last month when I was at the SWAT symposium I stopped by the Starbond booth because I wanted to buy some CA and also ask them if they had received any feedback from other customers about leaky bottles.

I was surprised to learn that they read the posts on this forum and were hoping that I would stop by their booth. They showed me a gasket made of thick paper bonded to aluminum foil that they came up with that proved to be successful in solving the leaking issue. It is placed inside the cap with the foil side facing outwards so that the foil will mate to the to of the bottle. When the cap is screwed on the bottle, the paper compresses just enough to make a solid gasket that stops leaking. They only had a limited supply of the little gaskets at the symposium, but promised to send more to me within a couple weeks. As it turned out, I received the gaskets in a little over a week. And, then yesterday, I received a box in the mail that contained about a dozen caps with gaskets installed. I wasn't even expecting that, but it is greatly appreciated.

Anyway, I have filled several bottles with the extra thin CA and given them a firm squeeze to check for leaks. There was absolutely no leakage on any of them so I am now a very happy camper and will have no concerns about getting more CA from them in the future.

I think that my Teflon tape trick might have worked, but the paper/foil gasket is a much cleaner solution to preventing leaks. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they do listen to their customers.

they get my vote!

Bill,

Nice that they respond to customer concerns and nice that they remembered who brought a problem to their attention. I learned long ago that there is always someone else that will make it cheaper or sell it cheaper even if they eventually drive themselves out of business doing it. Good customer relations are the only way to survive and thrive in business.

I did find a personal solution to the problem, I glued the top on with Locktite's Go2Glue which is mostly silicone judging by how it looks dried. Turns yellow/brown and just not a very elegant solution. It works but the new gaskets will be far better I am sure.

Thank You Starbond, you get my next CA order!

Jeeeze! I wish I had read this sooner. I knocked the bottle (3/4 full) over today and didn't notice it. By the time I did, it was sitting in a nice little cradle it created all on its own.
good thing my detailing bench top is made of stainless.
