Turning of the week for 2/28/22 is Christine Smith's Tabby Cat box made from cherry wood.

6” X 3.5” off-center turned box with a wooden cat-lid that snaps in place. The “fur” texture was burned onto the lid and the cat was then painted with acrylics. The bowl’s flowers were relief carved and painted."

An interesting perspective from the comments section:
Another winner! How did you ever get the cat to pose long enough to capture that expression in wood (because I can see he's looking right at you)?!

Great piece. I like the fact the cat is painted with eyes open. Our cats have their eyes closed most of the time. Very beautiful art work. Congratulations.

Thank you, Odie, for selecting this piece! I am truly humbled by everyone’s comments!
This is a special box, going to a 9 year old girl who rescued a tabby-cat in “real life” and they are best buds now. She will get this box for her birthday from her grandparents in a few days. Her favorite color is purple, hence the cheerful pansies were created.

I commissioned this work as a birthday present for our soon-to-be 9 years old granddaughter. The cat is Dinah, portrayed from a photo I took when Dinah was 'on the loose' and trying to get in our lake house. Claire wanted a cat, so she took Dinah home with her family. Thanks, Christine, for producing something I'm sure Claire (and Dinah) will treasure.

And we're lucky to have Christine and Jim Smith as part of our Brasstown Woodturners club.

Thank you so much, Robert!
A great gift idea for an awesome young lady and a “cool cat”. Loved this project. See you at the next meeting!
