So my wife and I will be spending the month of February renting a house in Foley, Al.
I was wondering if there's any turners near there that would like to spend a little time with a northerner.
I see on the AAW site that there's a turning chapter in Mobile, but I don't know if they're still active, since their newsletters are several years old.
I'm probably bringing my Jet mini lathe and some tools so I don't get too bored being away from my shop for a month. :-)

No idea, Bob. But if there is a Woodcraft or Rockler within an hour or two of where you'll be staying you could give the store manager/s a call. They would likely know if there are any active clubs in the area.

I looked into your suggestion. There's a Woodcraft about 200 miles away from Foley, in northern Alabama. Rocklers are even further away
Not exactly convenient :-)
Thanks for the thought, tho.

Below is a map Showing the zip code areas in Alabama near foley.
Courtesy of the us Census bureau.

If you go to the AAW member search and enter “365” in the zip code block you will get 15 hits on members living in zipcodes that begin with “365” you could then contact them individually by phone or email
I saw several in Fairhope and several in Daphne.

Pensacola Florida has pretty strong club worth a 45 minute drive

Thanks, Al-
I didn't know you could search like that, but I kinda suck with computers. I knew about the Pensacola club, but was trying to maximize my odds of hooking up with other turners.

:-) clubs are full of other turners :-)
Pensacola club likely has members in the Foley area a vist to club. A call to the club.
They might be willing to circulate an email from you to their members.

Thanks.
The Pensacola group meets on the 2nd Saturday, and I'm planning on going to their meeting. I'll see what happens from there.

Bob, the Pensacola club seems to be more active. By the way, I remember Foley very well. I had my first solo flight there as a young Naval Aviator. My bride of 45 years is from Mobile, and we spent our honeymoon at the Grand Hotel at Point Clear. Jon
