I noticed before Christmas that the fan on my Trend Pro Airshield had a different sound. Last week I took it apart and checked for clogs and made sure the fan was still turning. Whereas before I could feel the airflow on my face , now I cannot and it does not clear the vapor from my breath. Wouldn't you know I get extrabattery for Christmas and now.
I am hesitant to spend $220 on a new fan. Any options or comments?

My first thought is that the filter needs to be changed. If you run it without a filter does it still sound sick? It's terrible that the little motors cost so much since they are just little simple cheap DC motors. I wish that I could find a source for them.

Bill, I pulled the filters and ran the motor. The noise was less and I think there was a little more air flow, but still not what it was, because it will not easily clear condensation from breath. Guess I am in for a big bill for a small......part.

Gerald, have you tried the new battery? Perhaps the old one is defective. I don't see much that could cause a dc motor to lose just a little bit of power, except possibly dirt or wear on the commutator and/or brushes. I am not familiar with the unit; does the motor have replaceable brushes? If so, you might remove them and blow compressed air into the motor. If the brushes are badly worn try replacing them.

Dennis, I have not tries to blow it out, but this is like the cooling fans on computers, they are disposable.

Bill , I am wondering if these motors are like the tiny motors on drones.......both highly compact and powerful.

No I have not contacted Trend as yet, just getting up an running on this year as the crud has held me back or so to speak knocked me down. Call is the next step.

update

Just got such great service from Trend. I cleaned everything and even removed the fan. It just did not have the airflow. I called Trend and they said the only way to tell the problem was to send it back to them. I sent it in and was back within a week , working like new. I do not know what they did to fix it. They did not charge me or send a bill as yet. I paid postage to and they paid it back.
Like I said I will be singing the praises.

Trend Pro

Before I got the Trend Pro I use a simple shield that I clean with air compressor. So I did the same with the Trend. Then I heard a clicking noise an no air. Took it apart and found that wood chips had been blow back into the fan and the blades were not turning even when the motor was. After clean everything I found that the fan is fitted to the motor just by friction. I use CA glue to make a no slip connection. It is working fine and I don't use compressed air to clean it any longer!

And, besides that, compressed air will damage HEPA filters and allow much larger dust particles to pass through.
