Say that 10 times fast! I just got off the phone with the people at the hotel, and my money is sent in. The accusation has been made in the past, and is entirely true, that I have never been to a symposium before. So, I am going. It might not be a highfalutin' affair like a national symposium (and maybe it will!) but I am going to find out for myself. I will be alone. SWMBO and the family are staying home in case bad guys want to come and (try to) steal my Poolewood, but all that means is I don't have to worry about staying out late and shooting the proverbial breeze with fellow turners.

Anyone else here going? I will be the large handsome fellow with a well developed, but somewhat diminished turning muscle.

Bill

I wish I were going so I could visit with you Bill. I was in the same boat as you when it came to symposiums. Never went and never wanted to go. I attended the AAW gathering in KC last month. I learned two important things.

1. Many pieces look better in pictures than in person.

2. I am a much better turner than I thought I was.

It was an experience for sure. Jennifer may have said it best when she said, "The Symposium is more of a social event than anything else." If I get accepted as a presenter I will make the trek to Louisville. If not, I will wait for the Portland, OR Symposium in 2007.

I am still proud to say you are the only person I paid for turning lessons.

It's in Albany? I was just there this weekend. Traffic was awful coming home South on the Thruway Sunday. Eeeesh.

If I'm not busy that weekend I'll be there. Heck, Bill, you're gonna drive right by my house. We could carpool 🙂

Bill,

I attended last year, found it to be well run with a solid line of presenters. You should enjoy it. As mentioned earlier symposiums are a social event. For someone as gregarious as yourself it should be a blast. They are also an idea fest, at least for me they are. If I get one or two really good, new, ideas I consider it a successful trip. 😀

Hi guys

Dave, you mean with all the traveling you do, you are going to sit this one out? 😛 Maybe I should take some pictures of my pieces instead of the pieces!

Joe, if I was going that way we could, but that would mean (gasp!) driving in New Jersey! I will be taking some little known roads up through the mountains of eastern PA to I 84, and from there on up, possibly avoiding the mess at the tri state area altogether. How far are you from there though? Car pooling is always a possibliity.

Jake, will you be there for this one? It would be good to say hello in person again. I am looking forward to meeting a bunch of people from the forums, although there may be a few who won't care to see me. 😀

I know, I know, I hate it too. I'm from NYC, remember 😀 I grew up making fun of Joisey drivers.

Anyway, it looks like I can't go. 🙁 *sigh* Next time, I guess.
