need a top plan

Does anyone have and willing to share the plans for a top that starts out one way and flips to stand on it's other end? One is advertized in the latest Duluth Trading Co. catalog. I hope someone can save me 8.50 plus postage.

I think you are referring to either a spin top, or a throwing top. It works by how you wind the string before "throwing" it. A couple years ago, I did a Google search on them, found some pictures, printed one out full size, and used that as my model to turn one on the lathe. I don't know if there are any plans, as such, but you can do just what I did...it's an easy way to duplicate a pattern.

Google [tippy top] might find instructions, too. I don't remember where this came from.

There are also instructions in the book "Tops: Making the Universal Toy" by Michael Cullen.
