Does anyone have any experience with Toolnut.com? I am in the process of purchasing a Powermatic 3520B and Toolnut seems to have the best price, so far. Has anyone ever dealt with them? Does anyone know of a place that can compete with their price ($2570 free shipping).

Any input will be appreciated
Thanks
Dave

Dave we have about 5 or 6 people from our club who all bought Powermatic 2035A's a year or so ago from the Tool Nut. We are all very happy with thier service.

Dave,

I emailed them regarding a price on the PM 3520B and they never got back to me. Just my experience...obviously quite different from those in John's club.

I ordered mine last week from Woodcraft on their Feb 4 10% off sale. $2519.

Print out their web page showing the price so it can be faxed. Then contact Amazon for a price match - you will have to fax them the page.

I had to call them direct cause that silly online form seems to be there just for show! If you find a better price then 2570 with free delivery and no tax (thats what I paid) They will beat it! Call the 800 #!

Thanks everyone for your input regarding Toolnut.com. It would seem that they have a good reputation.

Now I just have to make up my mind on which lathe to purchase.
Thanks again!
Dave

OK, when purchasing a new item like this, is it all about price?

Don't get me wrong, I shop around too. And did the same for my Oneway.

Is it about price because the lathe is the known entity you have already decided on and delivery is the only service you request? All after delivery service and support is going to be between you and the manufacturer?

I am just curious on the decision.....

Service after sale

Steve,

I agree with you on service after the sale needs considered. This was one of the MANY factors that influenced my decision to purchase the Delta X5. There is a service center less than 40 miles from the farm and worst case I would load into my LOML's pickup and let her take it to the center if I could not get off work to haul myself. ALL of the other lathes would have required shipping to get repair at a service center. That being said, this was not the deciding factor but one that was looked at when making my purchase decision. I would say the HP, length of bed, and some items that made the lathe work easier with medical problems with my shoulders were first considerations. Service would come soon after those items.

Steve,

Yes, it is all about price and delivery for me. We have purchased many of our machines from local suppliers. Unfortunately, when there are problems, they always refer me to the mfg. So much for buying locally...

Overall, I'm getting excellent feedback on ToolNut regarding price and delivery.

Now I just have to make up my mind...

Thanks
Dave

That's because mfg.'s only license select wholesale or retail operations to do warranty and repair work. I would suspect that there are some large costs to these operations for that license. 🙂
