I taught Special Ed & Industrial Arts for forty years. Now I am a volunteer woodworking instructor at the Chicago Waldorf School, which has students pre-K through 12th grade. I spent this year teaching woodworking to 8th graders as we built outdoor playground equipment and workbenches for the new woodworking classroom. When the benches were completed I brought in my no-longer-used Jet Mini lathe and did some quick demos of simple woodturning. The immediate enthusiastic response from the students and faculty has convinced me to offer an after school turning club, as well as some in-class turning curriculum.

So, if you are like me, you might have some no-longer-used tools lying around. If you can afford to get rid of them, the students at the Chicago Waldorf School can put them to good use.

(And, as Bill Boehme suggested, I do intend to apply for an AAW Educational Grant when the time comes.)

Please send a PM if you can help.

Thanks,
Tom Albrecht

Can't help but I commend your efforts to spread the word about the Wonderful World of Woodturning.

Tom, I’m long on tools and short on time. What would be most useful to you?

Thank you Brent English for the gouges, the Robust rest, and the Robust live and drive centers. The Chicago Waldorf School appreciates your generosity.

Tom,

I also have a JET mini-lathe and bed extension collecting dust (mostly from my larger JET 1221). I've been considering selling it for the last year or so to free up some space, but would much prefer to donate it, especially to a good cause. I'll look into shipping costs to the school and If not prohibitive will box it up.

Thanks Tj
Your gouges and scrapers arrived today. They will be put to good use, exactly what we are looking for.

Thank you Mike Hunter for your generous donation of three new HUNTER VICEROY tools.
The ability to run three lathes with three students using the same types of tools is a real plus for an instructor.

All of the Chicago Waldorf Students will develop turning skill thanks to you.
