I taught Special Ed & Industrial Arts for forty years. Now I am a volunteer woodworking instructor at the Chicago Waldorf School, which has students pre-K through 12th grade. I spent this year teaching woodworking to 8th graders as we built outdoor playground equipment and workbenches for the new woodworking classroom. When the benches were completed I brought in my no-longer-used Jet Mini lathe and did some quick demos of simple woodturning. The immediate enthusiastic response from the students and faculty has convinced me to offer an after school turning club, as well as some in-class turning curriculum.
So, if you are like me, you might have some no-longer-used tools lying around. If you can afford to get rid of them, the students at the Chicago Waldorf School can put them to good use.
(And, as Bill Boehme suggested, I do intend to apply for an AAW Educational Grant when the time comes.)
Please send a PM if you can help.
Thanks,
Tom Albrecht
