I've been monitoring www.thewoodworkingchannel.com for a month or so now. So far I'm wondering if it is in the beginning stages and will get better over time. None of the buttons on their home page work on my system which is a very common Dell/Windows XP DSL settup.

The videos seem like woodshop 101. Lots of shots of drill, sawing and little else. Even Sam Maloof (a god to me) did little but use the bandsaw.

Am I expecting too much to soon? 😕 What are your thoughts?

Well, I've been checking in on it as also and while all is not working as smoothly as it maybe could, they are working toward making it more user friendly. I emailed them that I'd like to see more turning and was told that more turning was, indeed, in the works. Upgrades on the way are to make the times on the schedule align with your time zone. Also, 8 hours of programing that will repeat three times in 24 hours so folks that work different hours can tune in for segements during a time period that suits them. Nothing starts out perfect so time will tell how well this works going forward.

Anyone having any problems with the videos freezing or contantly trying to reload? My computer is mostly up to date, but i'm still having problems.undefinedundefined

I've had good lucj with the channel. Minimal freezes. They are working on version 2.0 which they have said will include video on demand. It's worth supporting them because the potential is enormous.

I have noticed a correlation between time-of-day and freezes. That is late at night (west coast) almost none. Mid-day weekend, oh boy!!!

Maximize!

Hi Mike,

I had the same problem....not able to use the buttons on the left side of the screen. Then someone posted on another forum that the screen needed to be maximized to allow room for the info to appear at the bottom of the page.
Hope this helps you, too.

Yes, different times of the day ARE different. There are peek hours when the servers are very busy - when this happens, response will deteriorate.

I also have the fastest internet connection available of 1500k but still have the frame reloading and it is frustrating because it is generally at a point of interest.

Here in Australia we are on a different time frame and we have some slow times and some fast times.

It does not seem to matter where you are it is going to effect everybody till they get all the glitches out.

On the other hand I find the stories informative and agree more turning would be good but I realise they are trying to cater for the woodworking community as a whole.

I hope it works out well for them.

Seems like the last few days the schedule hasn't matched the times, even allowing for the time change. I've tried to watch some programs during lunch or dinner and what was listed wasn't on. I also have the problem of it dropping out during the most important part of the segment. I hope it all gets better especially the video quality. Watching it on that tiny screen sucks. I'lll hang in there, it will probably change.

This might help

Here is a post from another forum that might help -

I have Windows Media Player 10

I went to: TOOLS / OPTIONS / PERFORMANCE / NETWORK BUFFERING

There you will have two choices:

1) Use Default Buffering

2) Buffer [--] Seconds of Content

Choose #2 and type in 60 for the number of seconds to buffer.
