...last night and bought the Powermatic 3520 lathe.

Thanks to those who responded with sage advice, folk advice and good old common sense.

I even got approval from the Comptroller, after some pretty good questions :-)

I'll pick it up the 2nd weekend in April.

Now I have to make room for it in my shop.

Dr. Dewey...

Don't hold your breath :-)

Now I have to buy a... and a.... and on and on!

I don't have the skill yet to make anything like I see posted here. But I will make shavings and maybe even some good looking firewod.

Can't wait to get it. I went out today and cut some Persimmon wood into pieces so I can cut out some bowl blanks.

I have some Osage Orange that I will cut out and have the blanks ready when I get the lathe back here and set up.

Now you'll need..........

to change the name of your work area from "shop" to "studio". :cool2:

Norm, Jake...

...I didn't realize how fast the "buy this and buy that" scenario would come :)

First a new car. But I would miss the nice big trunk in the TC!

Ann then a new sign for the sho... oops, STUDIO!

Thanks guys, I'm getting antsy to pick it up.

I had to chuckle over the "shop" vs. "studio" thing. For many years we used "Wishart's Studio" for our stained-glass business (Wishart is last name). We had stopped traveling years ago due to children and other options in life. We still do some some glass work in the garage "studio" but my interest in woodworking had really grown so I built a new "shop" a few years ago behind the house. My daughters bought me a little Delta midi-lathe for my 50th birthday (mid-life crisis?). I made lots of little crafty turnings but nothing really great. In January I also took the plunge and bought a better lathe (I looked hard at a 3520 but in the end opted for a Jet 1642 due to a really great deal) so I have ventured into bigger and better things. We had a lot of trees downed and cut up after Hurricane Ivan so I have been turning natural edge bowls like crazy. My wife and daughters came out one day and put up a new sign, they said I finally graduated from dad's "shop" to a new Wishart's "Studio".

Keep those chips flying- Woodwish

Mine is now called WORKSTEAD

It's a little play on words with my last name and describes my activities a little better. It will be quite some time before I will have an official "studio"
