You can get a morse taper cleaner from Woodcraft or Craft Supplies. It is a fiber taper used to clean out the morse taper. I have never covered my morse taper holes and I had a shop that actually had water running through it. I've never had a problem. I wouldn't recommend storing anything in the taper that might trap moisture. This would definitely cause corrosian.

Since I assume you're talking about your morse taper, the best thing you can do is leave it open to the air. Putting anything in it as a "plug" will actually foster condensation on the metal because it will tend to trap air and condensation. If you wish, you can swab it with a bit of machine or motor oil if you're putting the machine away in storage.

I'm assuming that you know the price of the urethane rubber cleaner at Packard.

You could use a small size Stebcenter (like 1/2", or so). I don't think that it will interfere with your Vicmarc scroll chuck. You could also use the type of insert that has a MT2 on one end and a J33 on the other (typically used on drill presses).

You could also air condition your shop so that the mud daubers would quit using it as a place to make a nest. Then I could come over and use your tools so that they would not rust from lack of use.

Your friendly, helpful neighbor,
Bill
