Symposium Banquet dress?

I have seen jeans and tshirt. More commonly I have seen dockers (casual slacks) and polo shirts. Some men wear sports coats and some ladies wear dresses. The atmosphere is casual and fun.

You could go the business casual route or wear a coat. I haven't worn a tie to any of them.

'Course you Hill People can wear your fav-rit bib overalls ๐Ÿ˜€

Most important thing to wear is a smile ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ as you'll be among friends!

m

Shirts and shoes required with that smile!

The most important item is and AUCTION BID CARD. Available free at the door.

Anything from bussiness casual to "Sunday go to meeting" blue jeans.
You will see a few sports coats no more than 2 ties.
In general the lady turners dress a bit but still stay on the casual side.

After the dinner an array of woodturings will be auctioned off to benifit the AAW EOG fund. It is a wonderful time to buy a turning you like and benifit the future of woodturing at the same time.

LAST TIME?????

Jim, is there something you haven't shared with us?

Surely not meaning to pry or be judgmental, but as a general rule, pumps don't go awfully well with jeans. ๐Ÿ˜€

Auction?

Al
Where do the turnings to be auctioned come from? I am assuming the pros donate things but are you still collecting and are they interested in items from regular turners?

This may be a very humbling way to find the true market value of my work.

Frank, you can make a donation of an item for auction when you check in at the Instant Gallery. Auction items are usually displayed on a separate table in the IG. As I understand it, any member (even me) is welcome to donate a piece for the sale.

Anyone can (and do) donate turnings. It can end up in a silent auction, or the regular auction because last year there were so many, the night gets too long.

As far as true market value, yes and no. I have had pieces I sell all day long (so to speak) go for way above and way below that price. Some have real deep pockets and want to donate to the organization, or it is a one of a kind collaboration of artists and a unique piece. Both of those bring very high prices.

OK, here's an idea for banquet dress- how about a "come as you turn" theme? We could all wear our favorite shop outfit we wear while we turn! Could be interesting. I always wear old denim shorts (actually "cut-offs" for those of you that remember those) that embarasses my daughters when seen in public, old t-shirt with enough stains to be good no where else, and a pair of old tennis shoes that the dog won't even touch. Would that be appropriate?

My wife just read what I was writing, guess I'll dress up in my best jeans and shirt with a collar! Dang!

No one would look at you odd.
I wear the good shorts and sandals with a Hawaiian shirt. And a credit card, in case I find something i can actually afford in the auction.

I buy all my pumps from the Surplus Center in Nebraska. ๐Ÿ˜€

As to dress, the predominant attire is really tacky Haiwaiin shirts. Start shopping now. If you are bereft of such shirts, stop at any Stuckeys on the way and get a Nascar Haiwaiin shirt and you will be the King or Queen of the Ball. Jacques Vesery from Maine, who is on my looped screen saver, will always give you a run for the money with his Grateful Dead shirt.
Seriously, people come in all styles. Just come...and bid!

Wow... Now I wish I was going to the banquet, because I'd actually fit in! Most of my favorite summer/hot weather shirts I've made myself---aloha style, from the strangest/loudest material I could find... ๐Ÿ™‚
