Just a thought: In a recent SPAM thread, I wanted to rate the thread with a thumbs down (which a lot of forums use) to warn others, but found that this forum uses gold stars (5 for excellent and 1 for terrible). Somehow "awarding" a gold star to a terrible thread seems to not be a good idea because it is very likely to give the wrong impression to anyone not familiar with rating threads.

If its that bad, why not report it to the staff using the report abuse button in the upper right of the message in the thread?
You can rate the thread poor, but unless everyone knows what a thumbs down ( which is available as a Post Icon ) or one star neither is of much use.
Personally I would report it, as comments keep it at the top where more folks notice.
Just my $.02.

mark.

Apparently I'm not even aware of the ratings so I guess that means it doesn't matter to me. I see now that there are all these post icons below. I guess I just ignored them.

I did report it -- and, I did not post a reply to it. My post here is about thread rating.
