Just received the following. Thought it was appropriate here.

JimQ

Early this morning, 12/13/2005, in Glendale Arizona, my newest segmented creation was stolen. It is approximately 13" diameter and constructed of Cherry, Walnut, Lacewood, Maple, and Ebony. The bottom center has my initials, WDK, burned in with '0905' stamped beneath. I expected it to show up somewhere in the Phoenix area soon. If seen, please contact me at 805-489-5309 as soon as possible. You can see a picture of the bowl at the top of the page at

Thank you,

More info on the bowl.

A customer, who was on the way home, stopped in Glendale, AZ, where his truck was stolen with the bowl inside.

Wow! In that case I guess I'd be more anxious to get the truck back. And, when the truck is recovered the bowl will likely be still in the truck since anyone who would steal a truck probably isn't interested in the bowl.

I would agree. In general, a car or a truck is going to be worth far more than a segmented bowl. And it is more likely that it will be easier to spot the truck moving on the highway. Segmented bowls are really hard to drive.

Well I'm glad I waited to post on this one so that I wouldn't be the only one who thought so. I can see where the guy is upset that his bowl was stolen, but was the bowl really stolen, or was it just "collateral damage"? When I first read this post, I figured it was stolen from a gallery or a shop or something like that, but here it is riding in a customer's truck. Call me heartless, but it seems to me that this is overreacting and misplaced concern. I am pretty sure that the poor guy with the truck has other things on his mind!

First show me and the wife did we had three carvings stolen. At first thought someone liked them enough to steal them then realized they were packed in a tool box and the person thought they were stealing tools. That must have been some letdown, no tools to sell or pawn just three really bad carvings that no one would give a dime for.

I've seen enough episodes of COPS to suspect that most of the fine folk who “borrowâ€Â* cars are usually not art connoisseurs. I can see him telling his buddies that it (the segmented bowl) can’t be worth too much, ‘cause he saw one sorta’ like it at WalMart for $15.

* Explanation of “borrow†as used on COPS:
COP: Whose truck is this?
Suspect: It belongs to my friend.
COP: What is your friend’s name?
Suspect: I don’t know.
COP: Where does your friend live?
Suspect: I don’t know.
COP: Would you mind putting your hands behind your back?
Suspect: What for? I didn’t do nuttin’.

I would have to be more worried about the bowl, a truck is just something I bought, the bowl is something created, sure you can make another one but it,s just not the same!

I think some of you are missng the boat. It is a distinct possibility that if the bowl turns up it might lead to finding the truck. If it does then the bowl turner will be helping his customer. What else can you ask. the bowl is already some one elses property he is just trying to help...
