Hey folks what is the best adhesive removal agent to get the residue left behind on you Sanding docs steel plate left from PSA sanding discs stuck to it when you are wanting to get back to a clean steel surface?
Depends on the adhesive.
Same issue with other PSA products like double sided tape and sandblast resist.
Naptha works on many
Alchohol works on some
Sometimes dabbing with the adhesive side of removed paper will grab the adhesive residue and pull it free.
On a metal plate a sharp putty knife works well.
DON’T rub it with your thumb. This rolls the adhesive into a ball and works pretty well for a while. Then you get a nasty blister with no warning.
Mineral spirits works on the adhesive disks that I use. It helps to let it sit for ten minutes or so after application, then a putty knife gets rid of what remains.
